I would personally suggest yes because starting from here would be confusing because this anime has a lot of characters.

Every anime of it has different stories and perspective but are related to one another. And like the other comment said the full stuff can be seen on the manga.

Shin Ikkitousen (2022) is the latest in the franchise and yes they are all uncensored and most of these have a English dub if you want to go with that.
Also the first season was done by J.C.Staff which at that time the animation and art was real good. Arms did S2 + S3. S4 by TNK + first ova.

Well, better off trying to follow this than the Fate series.

Although I didn't get back into this after season 1 so I need to do the same.

The animes are all non cannon to the manga and are their own separate but connected universe. The previous anime's will not explain nor help you understand anything that has happened before this episode. This anime follows the manga Shin Ikkitousen which is a direct sequel to the original Ikkitousen manga

actually season 1 and 2 were canon to the manga but unfortunately rushed and skipped/altered a lot of events from it

A small caveat. This anime appears to be based more on the manga, ergo Ukitsu not dead... This also implies that some characters who survived in the previous anime might be dead here, such as Teni.

I didn't know they were bringing back Ikkitousen... There're multiple seasons prior to this for those unfamiliar.

Honestly i was more surprised by the fact that funimation is behind it considering how they reacted when Interspecies reviewers aired. Makes you wonder if this is another case of "we don't know what we're actually releasing" and they're gonna "cancel" it as well when twitter takes notice. ^^

It wouldn't surprise me if they're not actually "aware" of the show's premise, but Interspecies Reviewers went waaay further than simple innuendo and was about as close to skirting the line of hentai as you can possibly get. So, if Funimation were to actually cancel Ikkitousen over some ignorant classification like "it falls right in line with Interspecies Reviewers", then that would just be a ton of BS... But that being said, many companies/businesses are at the mercy of outlets like Twitter, Facebook, etc since their success or failure nowadays seems to rely more upon if they cannot offend anybody and less upon the number of actual customers they can cater to; only because as we've seen time and time again, if it offends somebody with a voice (regardless if it's actually something they even watch or take part in) then others will join in and can easily spur a negative backlash unto anyone that played any role, so to that point I guess I would see Funimation's reasoning if such a thing did come to pass. The moral of this long story is that people need to lose some of this newfound fragility and acquire some tolerance, in that different people like different things so they can't just blame or chastise others (or push for cancel/removal) simply because they don't approve or adhere to it themselves. Though to clarify, obviously this isn't meant to refer to all people in general.

Well the thing with Interspecies Reviewers is that sure there was "backlash" on twatter etc. but i would argue that all that "bad press" actually benefitted the show by a large margin looking at how successful she show actually became in the end. The thing with social media anime "fans" is that they are widely just disregarded and ignored due to their often times incredibly obvious double standards and the like by pretty much the anime/manga community as a whole. If you ask a genuine anime fan what they think about these people on twitter you will most likely get one of two things: Apathy or mockery. And honestly in my opinion just in terms of content and how it was shown i find Interspecies to be tamer then Ikkitousen even more so when we are talking stuff from the manga aswell. ^^'

As for people needing to loosen up a bit more and shed some of that snowflake nature i wholly agree to that statement. I wish we could go back to the time when people could watch/read/listen to whatever they wanted without getting berated by a squad of Karens.

But i think they reason why is that Funi banks on the obscure nature of the anime/manga that is Ikkitousen and hope it won't catch the eyes of the perpetually offended people.

I certainly don't mind novels so you got nothing to worry about there :D I do enjoy me some meatier comments over a sparse 1 liner. So yeh was a nice read :)

One thing I learned from have been watching anime for so long is you can't have enough of Ikkitousen. It will keep coming back lol
